DUNDU Giants of Light 'Lighting Up Luton' 2022
In October 2022, we presented DUNDU: Giants of Light 'Lighting up Luton.' This large-scale, after-dark live event invited Luton’s communities to join DUNDU, a giant illuminated puppet, on a spectacular parade through the town.
DUNDU, which means You and You (or Du und Du), is a gentle giant that has enthralled audiences worldwide, bringing a sense of wonder, togetherness and joy wherever it goes. In Luton it will be joined by audiences, dancers, musicians and skilled puppeteers in a large-scale live ‘Lighting up Luton’ outdoor event for all the family.
The after-dark parade began in Bury Park, on Kenilworth road, and ended with a finale performance interacting with crowds and community performers in St George’s Square. Audiences were invited to join DUNDU on the walk through the town. Audiences had the opportunity to get creative too, by making their own lantern to carry on the parade. There were also co-creation commission opportunities available for local creatives and performers, as well as volunteering opportunities.
Lantern Workshops were held on:
Sat 8 Oct 10am - 4pm at The Mall, Central Square
Sun 9 Oct 11am - 4pm at The Mall, Central Square
Sat 15 Oct 10am - 3pm at Bury Park Community Centre
DUNDU brings joy to all ages and is an inspiration around the globe, expressing emotion and telling universal stories of togetherness. DUNDU: Giants of Light was presented in partnership with FESTIVAL.ORG and its Global Streets programme, supporting us in bringing world-class international outdoor arts to the streets of Luton. The Global Streets programme reimagines the places where people live and work, bringing communities together to share in moments of joy, celebration and reflection.
