Pieces of Legacy

A mosaic celebrating the stories and contributions of the Windrush generation who helped shape the Luton we know today.

September 2024 - March 2025

Info

Revoluton Associate, Dionne Ible, led a special celebratory project honouring the Windrush generation and their descendants – co-creating Pieces of Legacy, a stunning mosaic tribute to their invaluable contributions to the Luton community.

This vibrant artwork captured the spirit, resilience and history of those who shaped Luton town, featuring key landmarks and people. The mosaic was accompanied by a poem engraved on a plaque by local poet, Haneefah Muhammad, inspired by the stories of some of the Windrush pioneers. It became a powerful moment to reflect, share stories and celebrate a lasting legacy.

Dionne led interviews with elders from the Windrush Generation who arrived in Luton from the Caribbean. The creative process was a resounding success, uniting generations through art and heritage. The finale event held on Saturday 26 April 2025 at The Pavilion in High Town was equally triumphant – beautifully attended, deeply moving and warmly received by the community.
