Info

Creative Roots was a vibrant and community-led project delivered by Revoluton Arts in partnership with producer, Imrana Mahmood. Set in the heart of Bury Park, Luton, the Spring 2025 project invited local residents to explore identity and heritage through a series of hands-on creative workshops — each deeply rooted in Islamic art traditions and cultural expression.

The first workshop, led by calligraphy artist Nadia Hussain, offered participants an introduction to the complex beauty of Arabic script. Using traditional tools, they explored both the historical context and meditative practice of Islamic calligraphy — a soulful lead-in to the Ramadan season.

Next, mindfulness and artistry came together in a henna workshop guided by multidisciplinary artist and wellbeing coach Sam Hussain. Participants were encouraged to reconnect with themselves through sacred design, self-expression, and the therapeutic nature of henna.

Rounding off the series was a vibrant session at the Inspire Eid Festival with artist Teakster, where children and families contributed to a collaborative canvas inspired by geometric pattern. A joyful celebration of tradition and creativity.

The project concluded with the Creative Roots Podcast — recorded in partnership with Inspire FM — capturing voices, stories and reflections from across the series.

The workshops were open to anyone aged 13 and over, welcoming people of all backgrounds and experience levels, with a focus on creativity, learning new skills, and enjoying a fun, inclusive environment.
