From Luton to Indonesia: Revoluton Takes Artists Across the Globe.
Two Luton-based artists are about to take their creative practices across the world, as Nadia Hussain and Sophie Gresswell prepare to travel to Makassar, Indonesia, as part of Archives of Change.
Developed in collaboration with Third Version Creative, Indonesian partners Musyawarah Arsip (MUAR) and Revoluton Arts, this international cultural exchange is an initiative centred on investigating archival practices. The project ambition is to bring creatives and communities together to explore memory, migration, identity and the different ways we document, preserve and share culture. Archives of Change is supported by The British Council through the Connections Through Culture programme.
Nadia Hussain is a Luton-based artist and painter drawn to the romance of the everyday. Through live painting, sketchbooks and travel, she captures passing moments, street scenes and the connections found between people, places and cultures. Sophie Gresswell is an artist, poet and facilitator whose practice centres connection, participation and creative exchange.
As they head to Indonesia for the residency, Nadia and Sophie will connect with artists, communities and cultural organisations, sharing perspectives, learning through exchange and exploring new approaches to cultural memory.
Lindsey Pugh, CEO and Creative Director of Revoluton Arts said:
“We are excited to be partnering with Third Version Creative to offer two Lutonian artists the opportunity to take part in a creative residency in Indonesia this autumn. The themes of migration, memory and cultural archiving within the project connect closely with Revoluton’s own mission and values. We can’t wait to host the artists from Musyawarah Arsip for their visit to the UK later in the autumn, to see what cultural and creative parallels exist between Makassar and Luton”.
Opportunities like this are about putting Luton’s artists, ideas and stories on an international stage. It’s about bringing new inspiration back home and in true Revoluton fashion, it’s make it here. share it with the world in action.
