Classical violin concert — 'Russian Fables'

2.30pm–3pm | Zoom & Facebook Live | Free

Presented by Luton-based Sinfonia Verdi — for all ages

Take a moment for reflection and remembrance every Friday afternoon to hear the soaraway sounds of virtuoso musicians from Luton-based Sinfonia Verdi.

This week we have virtuoso violinists Stephanie Waite and Enrico Alvares.

Enrico and Stephanie opened our series of 12 digital concerts at the start of the lockdown. Back by popular demand, we are delighted to have them closing the series with a concert entitled Russian Fables.

Join Enrico and Stephanie for 12 exquisitely evocative Russian short stories in sound: the Twelve Duos for Two Violins by Reinhold Gliere plus a surprise encore!

Enrico Alvares studied at the Purcell School, then with the Amadeus Quartet for six years. He was invited by Sir Neville Marriner to join the Academy of St Martin in the Fields in 1991 and was a full member for ten years, during which time he worked with a full roster of the world's very greatest soloists. Enrico has played with all the major British orchestras and now, in addition to devoting his time to teaching, chamber music, and solo Bach recitals, is most often to be seen in London's recording studios.

Stephanie Waite studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama Junior Department before going to Cambridge to read English Literature where she continued her violin studies with renowned violinist Levon Chilingirian. Stephanie worked as a teacher in one of London's largest prisons, running arts and music projects with the inmates before realising that the desire to play the violin had never left her. For the last few years, she has enjoyed a diverse
career performing in many orchestras, teaching a small but cherished group of students, and playing chamber music as often as possible
