Is this for me?
This creative assembly is designed for local residents who have a connection to Kashmir and/or the Paisley design.
Info
Do you have a connection to Kashmiri heritage? A connection to Kashmir’s paisley design? Or have your own paisley-patterned textiles, pashminas or clothing at home?
Originating in Kashmir, the paisley design became globally recognised through colonial trade and mass production.
On Tuesday 1 December, Revoluton is hosting a ‘go-see’ to Bedford’s Higgins Museum to visit Amina Pagliari’s exhibition The Paisely: Mass Production, Migration and Memory Exhibition.
Join us again on Thursday 10 December to discuss the exhibition, listen to stories and share your own paisley adorned textiles. Expect an afternoon of conversation and storytelling.
Inspired by Revoluton’s Undercurrent project, we’ll explore questions such as how the story of the paisley reflect histories of empire, migration and decolonisation? How does this Kashmiri motif carry memory, identity and belonging? How have Kashmiri communities used practices like textile printing and making to come together, create and organise?
Please bring along an object or two from home that you feel connects to this conversation. An item of clothing, a photograph or something else of significance to you.
If you are also interested in attending the go-see trip to the exhibition in Bedford on Tuesday 01 December, please ensure you register your interest via the booking form.
